OUR STORY
Owner Jorge Garza's parents immigrated from Mexico in search of a better life, offering more opportunities for their family. At the age of four, he was enrolled in the daycare program at the Angelita Fraga Community Center in Second Ward where he received his first music class. A passion for the arts quickly developed which led him to sing with the Singing Boys of Houston before attending the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

His family's humble beginnings, just a block away from where the studios now stand on Milby Street, would never have foretold a future in the arts, much less a path leading to a scholarship to the world's most prestigious music conservatory, The Juilliard School. What followed was a decades long international career, including performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, The National Theater in Prague, and The Cairo Symphony.

GARZA STUDIOS was born of the idea that artistic excellence is possible for all through hard work and perseverance. The studios exist to create opportunities for arts education and artistic expression in an otherwise underserved community.

OUR COMMUNITY
GARZA STUDIOS is located in Second Ward (Segundo Barrio), comprised mainly of Mexican-American and immigrant families. As one of Houston's oldest established neighborhoods, its residents have a proud and rich cultural history. Our location, only 8 minutes from Houston's downtown cultural arts center, provides more opportunities for established performing arts groups to bring their educational programs to the East End in order to directly impact residents of our community.
OUR MISSION
Collaborations with local arts non-profits will be the cornerstone of our mission to advocate for the arts and increase access to artistic expression and arts programing for the residents of Second Ward. We intend to foster these relationships in order to increase visibility and contribute to the greater community health.
